Identifying Concrete Problems

Although it might not seem like a big deal, issues with the concrete around your house can cause big problems in the long run. A single rogue crack can turn into a leaky basement in no time, which is part of the reason I started focusing so much on evaluating concrete issues. I realized that by identifying problems early, I could have them addressed proactively to resolve the problem. This website is all about identifying issues with your concrete so that you can get things fixed quickly the first time around. Read more about concrete issues on this blog and why they are so dangerous.

Crawl Space Repair

If your home's crawl space has contaminated dirt, rotten wood, and moisture, then the conditions could affect the integrity of your home's foundation and contribute to mold and air quality issues or pest problems. A crawl space foundation repair includes drying surfaces, leveling materials, and installing a slab material across the flooring that comprises the space.

Material Composition And Drying Efforts

A concrete contractor may be hired to pour a concrete slab across the flooring that comprises a crawl space. Before the concrete pouring is performed, the composition of the flooring will need to be assessed, and drying efforts will need to be conducted. The crawl space is typically the lowest level within a home. It may be located in a basement or alongside it. Some crawl spaces provide access to plumbing and electrical components within a home.

Air that is confined within a crawl space may impede other living areas in a residence. During an inspection, the air quality within the crawl space will be assessed. Additionally, pest infestations will be treated. All of the preliminary work can be overseen by a residential contractor. Upon determining how much moisture or pollutants are present, the flooring materials may be leveled or a base aggregate layer may be applied to the flooring.

A Membrane, Insulation, And Concrete

Excessive moisture can put a lot of strain on your home's foundation and cause cracks to form in materials. Some homes may shift due to excessive moisture. To prevent moisture from forming, a barrier may be laid along the flooring in a crawl space. A PVC liner will provide a waterproof surface that will prevent moisture accumulation. Concrete can be poured on top of the barrier.

Since fresh concrete contains water, a concrete contractor may recommend that the top of a crawl space is insulated. Foam insulation that is secured along the ceiling of a crawl space will prevent moisture from damaging materials in the crawl space. Vapor barriers are impermeable materials that are often secured along interior walls.

The barriers will prevent the rotting of wood and damage to other materials that were originally used to construct the crawl space. Concrete can be prepared on-site and will be poured across the flooring in a crawl space. Ventilation aids may be used to aid with curing the concrete. Upon the completion of the project, a final inspection of the crawl space may be conducted.
